Update: Ukraine Adoption Program
Adoptions in Ukraine still continue to pick up speed. Ukraine's adoption authority continues to enact a new policy that dossier's will be reviewed and approved within 10 business days of submission. Then, parents will receive an invitation to travel in approximately two months! That's just about 60 days after dossier approval!
As additional evidence of this new policy in action, the Ukraine State Department for Adoption and Protection Rights of Children (SDAPRC) has offered referrals to the CWA families that have already traveled to the country at the beginning of March 2007. All the families accepted their referrals in a timely manner.
Although two of the families wanted older children (up to 5 years old), the third one wanted and accepted the sixteen month old, blue-eyed, blond-haired boy. Several CWA families will be submitting their dossiers within the next two weeks, and will have possible appointments in May of 2007.
We estimate that at the rate Ukraine is currently processing dossiers, CWA could eventually handle up to 10 adoptions per month – which is a very realistic goal if the CWA Ukraine program continues to get more registrations!
