Update: Guatemala Adoption Program
We are happy to report that 2006 was a wonderful year for Guatemalan adoptions. In 2006, 66 CWA families brought home 69 children to join their forever families. That is an amazing number - our biggest ever!
At this time adoptions from Guatemala are functioning well. Cases are coming back approved in a relatively good time frame, families are traveling frequently to pick up their children, and referrals of new children come to our agency on a regular basis.
Unfortunately there are some unknowns about the future of adoptions from Guatemala. The way in which the U.S. and Guatemala will respond regarding adoptions once the U.S. ratifies the Hague treaty in 2007 remains uncertain.
There is great concern that no matter what the response is, the changes could cause significant delays for adoption cases in Guatemala. To learn more about the situation, please read the updates on the Department of State website. |
