We Believe That God is in Control of Our Agency and Your Adoption  ::  February 2007

As many of you are aware, there will be changes within the Guatemala adoption program during 2007, due to the implementation of the Hague Treaty. At this time, no one knows what will happen, or when it will happen.

CWA has made the decision to stop accepting new applications for adoption from Guatemala on a temporary basis. We have worked to find families for the precious children of Guatemala since 1992, and we remain committed to this program. However, until decisions are made, changes are implemented, and we are fully informed on how to process new cases, we will focus our time and attention on the current families we have in the program.

We continue to work diligently to bring home as many children as possible. Once our Guatemala program is open to new applications again, we will update our website.

In February, our Guatemala program staff will be participating in the “Solutions” conference in Guatemala City. There they will meet with other adoption agencies representatives and Guatemalan attorneys to hear from Guatemalan adoption officials regarding the changes possible when the United States implements the Hague Treaty requirements.  While they do not expect to have solid answers after the meeting about how Guatemalan adoptions will progress, they do hope to have more information about how and when changes may occur.
