CWA's Spotlight Child: Taylor Caton
Taylor is in the 6th Grade at the Mother of Divine Providence Catholic School in Pennsylvania, and we just celebrated her 11th "Forever Day."
She is in Advanced Math, and is a High Honors Student. She will be auditioning in two weeks for the Archdiocesan Piano Recital, playing "Chopin's Nocturne in G Minor."
But the biggest thing of all is, every year the VFW sponsors an essay contest called Voices of Democracy. Taylor's essay was judged to be the best in the entire state of Pennsylvania.
On the 27th of January, Taylor was introduced to the VFW Department of Pennsylvania Mid Winter Conference as the Patriot's Pen Winner. She read her essay to the 750 veterans attending, and getting a standing ovation!
Taylor's Essay on citizenship in America topped 7,937 entries from the state of Pennsylvania. So far, she has been awarded $2,450 in U.S. savings bonds and cash. Her essay has now been forwarded to Washington for the national competition. Taylor is the first 6th grader to win at the state level.
