Recently we told you about the Families for Orphans Act. This act was introduced by Senator Mary Landrieu and James Inhofe, and Representatives John Boozman and Diane Watson; this is a bi-partisan effort. The act would establish the Office of Orphan Policy, Diplomacy and Development within the Department of State. This office would have the responsibility of developing and implementing a comprehensive strategy advocating for the preservation of families and other permanency options such as intercountry adoption for orphans.
CWA supports this act and joins hands with Families For Orphans Coalition members and others by asking you to lend your support too. Soon the call will go out asking you to contact your members of Congress, (Senate and House Representative) requesting them to become co-sponsors of this act.
Please watch our blog for more news and the call! In the meantime you can read about the act and prepare to advocate for children around the world by visting http://www.jcics.org/families%20for%20orphans.htm.
