Hill Family

July 2004 was an amazing month for our family. We celebrated our 10th wedding anniversary and we had our first baby, through the gift of adoption. In January 2003 we decided we were ready to begin the adoption process. Several months later all of the mounds of paperwork were completed and we were on the waiting list to receive a referral for our baby boy. Things in Guatemala became complicated and we prayed to know if we were making the right decision. The Lord assured us to Trust Him!

In December we received a referral for a one-month old little boy and our hearts were light. The holidays were joyful as we felt that we were finally getting to celebrate being parents. Just a few short weeks later we received word that the birthmother had changed her mind. We were very upset, but God assured us to trust Him!

A few days later we received the referral for our precious little baby boy. He had been born on December 11th, just one day after Mike’s birthday. We felt confident that this was our son. The process in Guatemala moved more slowly than we had hoped—any time away from your child is difficult—but we knew each day was one closer to the day he would come home.

We visited Christian in April and got to meet his wonderful foster mother, Marta. It was obvious she loved him and was caring for him as she would her own child. When we had to leave, we all shed many tears, but again God assured us to Trust Him!

In the summer we began praying specifically for Christian to come home during the month of July, but the days ticked by and it didn’t seem humanly possible for him to be able to come home during our specified month. Yet, God showed us that He is completely in control and Christian came home exactly as the Lord had planned from the very beginning. On July 13th we received the phone call that we should prepare to go pick up our son and one week later he was landing at DFW airport with us!

Christian is exactly the baby God had planned for us and the adoption process showed us God’s abundant love for us and how we can Trust Him with all of the details of our lives. There were so many instances throughout the process where we witnessed first-hand God’s plan in action. What joy to know God is truly in control and loves us so!
