Christmas Appeal for Ethiopia

Hello friends,

This year Christmas needs to come a little early... because a need is already knocking at the children's doors. This will be Christian World Adoption's only major appeal for donations this holiday season. Let me give you a few details of the need:

A number of orphanages in Ethiopia's Southern Nations region have been closed, and their children transferred to other children's homes. Christian World Adoption's partners in Ethiopia find themselves housing ever-larger numbers of children. Currently there are over 200 children living in the five partner orphanages funded in whole or part by CWA.

The difficulty is compounded by delays in regional government paperwork, and prohibitions on moving children to other facilities. Through no fault of their own, the orphanages with which CWA has worked for years are dealing with overcrowding, longer stays for each child, rising costs for food, medical care, staffing, rent, utilities, and transportation.  What's more, annual inflation in Ethiopia averages a whopping 40%!

CWA provides more than $290,000 annually in operating funds to Acacia Village, over $378,000 to Children's Cross Connection (CCC) and $136,000 to Tikuret. These are costs borne by CWA as a normal part of its adoption work in Ethiopia. Funds promised by UNICEF for children transferred are far below the actual cost of providing for the children, and CWA cannot make up the difference. Furthermore, the decline in of adoption cases means that available funding, which comes from adoption fees, has been severely impacted as well.

For the first time ever CWA is facing the very real possibility of being unable to fund daily operations at our partner orphanages in Ethiopia. That's why I'm making this appeal to our friends, families, adoptive parents, churches, and businesses to contribute to CWA to help us cover those costs.
